Replying to “It’s my first semester at ETH studying physics. I had mentally prepared myself for the stress and I do...” i do the same thing and have the same feelings, the people around me that have gone through similar things just tell me to not stress, that most people don't bother to understand everything and just prepare for the exam through exercise repetition and learning by heart. i like to think that this just means i'm making it easier for myself for the exam phase. my advise (and what i'm going to be doing) is to focus on solving the physics and analysis exercise sheets just enough so you get the extra points for the exams and only really do the other exercises when you feel like it and have time to practice and understand stuff better.
